The Fourth of July is just around the corner and you may be looking for some fun and creative recipes to share with family and friends. This patriotic banana popsicle is fast, easy and perfect for the hot summer day we all expect this holiday weekend. Consider using this recipe as a food craft to entertain the kids as you prepare all the delicious dishes for your family outing.

While this banana popsicle has all the healthy nutrients a banana contains, you also have the opportunity to curb your sweet tooth by adding chocolate and decorative sprinkles to it. Have fun with this recipe and make it your own!

Ingredients:

  • 2 organic bananas
  • 16 oz. of Nestle® semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tsp. of canola oil
  • Red, white and blue sprinkles
  • Popsicle sticks

*Serves 8

Directions:

  1. Cut the bananas in four ways (vertical and horizontal down the center)
  2. Insert popsicle stick in each and place in the freezer
  3. Melt chocolate in the microwave for approximately 3.5 minutes, stir every 30-40 seconds until it is melted and soft, add oil to thin out chocolate
  4. Line a cookie sheet with wax paper
  5. Dip the bananas, one at a time in the chocolate and place on the cookie sheet
  6. Sprinkle the bananas and return to the freezer until frozen
