GROW by Organics Unlimited Launches Banana Sales in Japan

Grow

Organics Unlimited, a San Diego-based grower and importer of organic fruit, is pleased to announce it will start selling organic bananas in Japan that support its social responsibility-focused GROW program. This is a result of the Asian country beginning to adopt the consumer trend that has been on the rise on the U.S. Through its GROW fund, Organics Unlimited donates a percentage of every organic banana sale to the communities in rural Mexico and Ecuador where the fruit is grown. These organic bananas will be sold and marketed under the BioFruit label in Japan. (more…)

Bananas are summer’s perfect fruit

buy-sell-circleWith summer just around the corner, it is natural to start thinking about increasing your activity level and paying more attention to eating healthier meals. Organic bananas, like the ones from Organics Unlimited, can be a big help in achieving those summer goals.

We all know that bananas have a lot of potassium, in fact one medium banana contains 350mg or 12% of your recommended daily intake (RDI), but do you know about their other health benefits?
Bananas are a good source of vitamin C, which acts as an antioxidant in the body. Antioxidants fight against damage caused by free radicals that can lead to some types of cancer, as well as heart disease and premature aging. One medium banana provides 10mg vitamin C, a quarter of the RDI.
Bananas not only help you look good both on the inside and out, but they also help you feel good. Of all fruits, bananas are the best source of vitamin B6, with one large banana providing 50% of the RDI. Vitamin B6 helps the body to make red blood cells and neurotransmitters such as serotonin (the ‘feel-good’ hormone). In addition, Bananas contain a plethora of other vitamins and minerals that promote relaxation and stress-relief as well. Melatonin is a hormone that promotes sleep, and bananas are one of the only foods it’s naturally found in. What’s more, magnesium is known to relax muscles, perfect for that after gym snack.

Incorporating bananas into your daily diet does not have to be boring. Here are some ideas to get you started:
• Bananas can be cooked on the barbecue. Throw them whole onto the grill and cook until their skin turns black and the banana flesh inside is nice and soft. They are delicious on their own, or for an extra treat you can eat them with ice cream or berries, or you can split the skin and pop some chocolate chips inside, wrapping in foil before cooking.
• Make a banana sandwich for lunch or a snack. A fantastic combination is bananas with peanut butter, raisins or both.
• Smoothies are a great way to use up bananas, especially if they’re over-ripe. Try blending with yogurt and strawberries for a quick breakfast or snack.
• You can make ‘ice cream’ from frozen bananas. Simply peel some bananas and freeze them overnight wrapped in cling film. Take them out of the freezer about 20 minutes before needed to allow them to soften. Chop them up and place in a blender, mixing until smooth and creamy. This treat is best served straight away.
