SAN DIEGO (Nov. 5, 2015) – Organics Unlimited is pleased that Jairo Antonio Hernandez de los Santos is the latest engineer to join the team in Colima, Mexico, as a Farm Operations Manager. The addition of Hernandez de los Santos ensures that the high level of quality of organic produce will not be compromised as fruit production continues to expand.

Hernandez de los Santos, pictured above, has nearly 30 years of experience in various facets of agriculture. He graduated from the Universidad Mexicana in 1987 with a degree in agricultural engineering and began his career as an advisor for the department of agriculture in the Chiapas region of Mexico. He was responsible for planning, implementation and supervision of the fruit packaging process and oversaw more than 200 employees. Since then, he has worked as a production manager for multiple banana and other perishable fruit companies throughout Mexico, managing staff as they monitor plant health, production, fruit harvesting, packing and more. Before joining the Organics Unlimited team, he was an independent agricultural advisor and would visit small operations to assess their production programs.

“Creating a quality product begins at the ground level, during the planting and maturation phases of our organic bananas,” said Mayra Velazquez de Leon, president and CEO of Organics Unlimited and GROW. “The knowledge and experience Hernandez de los Santos brings in both management and organic agriculture is valuable to our production process.”

At Organics Unlimited, Hernandez de los Santos is responsible for all the harvest production and farm maintenance, including seeding, fertilization, irrigation, harvesting, packing and personnel management. He manages a team of about 230 workers within farm operations and works closely with three other engineers throughout the Organics Unlimited farms. He reports directly to Manuel Velazquez de Leon, vice president of operations for Organics Unlimited.

“The addition of Hernandez de los Santos keeps us on track for a good harvest,” said Marco Garcia, operations and logistics manager for Organics Unlimited. “With the rainy season upon us and the potential for more hurricanes, the expertise in farm operations that Hernandez de los Santos brings to our team is invaluable.”
