Fresh Summit 2012 Reflections

There’s nothing better than coming home from Fresh Summit feeling like you work and belong to the nation’s greatest industry.  It was a busy few days, and at Organics Unlimited we are so excited about having seen so many of our customers, talked to people who had a real interest in what we are doing and sharing the great programs they have.  Through the convention, a few highlights came forth that seemed to create the most interest:

• There is a tremendous interest in social responsibility programs, with a desire by most companies to want to give something back to the people who are responsible for much of the labor that contributes to our food source.  We take pride in our connections with both GROW and Fair Trade.
• More people in the B2B world use social media than we sometimes realize.  We got many comments on our social media programs.
• The interest in organic products continues to grow, and our customers are finding it is what consumers are demanding.
• New programs that can help retailers with merchandising and options are more popular than ever, but we need to make the process easy.  Kudos on the ability to easily download and use POP signage on demand.

To all PMA members and visitors who were in Anaheim, we were happy to see you there.  Our best wishes go out to all of those who were caught in the airline cancellations and couldn’t make it home.  We hope everyone can go home to business as close to normal as possible.  We grow our bananas in an area that is often hit by hurricanes, and we empathize with the clean up and recovery process.
