GROW Funded Ecuador Early Childhood Education Project Update

GROW Ecuador Early Childhood Education Project Update

Thanks to our wonderful supporters of the GROW program, Children International is able to continue to develop and expand its Early Childhood Education program in Guayaquil, Ecuador. We have seen incredible growth and response to this amazing program with even more volunteers and children. Learn more after the break.

In 2013, the initial participation goal was 315 children; however, due to funding and the collaboration of volunteers who agreed to provide program services on extended schedules, 388 children started out in the program and 361 completed it – 190 girls and 171 boys. Participants included sponsored children, siblings and relatives of sponsored children and children from the communities in which the Community Centers are located.

The children were evaluated both upon entry and completion of the program, allowing Children International to refine its program approach in four major developmental areas:

  • Gross motor skills
  • Fine motor skills
  • Hearing and language
  • Personal and social development

The survey results indicated improvements in all four developmental areas. The areas of greatest improvement were gross motor skills (88.37%, up from 44.85%) and hearing and language (91.41%, up from 47.42%). The two other aspects, fine motor skills and personal and social development, also reflected a significant improvement in the final evaluation.

These project survey results confirmed the positive benefits of the program’s developmental support that was provided for the children ages 3 to 5 who participated in the program.
