Recipe: Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Bread

Organic bananas are the perfect accompaniment to milk chocolate, and this twist on a banana bread adds a touch of sweetness with milk chocolate chips. The addition of the oats in this recipe allows you to eat it for breakfast without guilt, or serve it for a snack or dessert.


  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup quick cooking oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups mashed bananas
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and set aside.
  3. Cream together the shortening and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla; beat until fluffy.
  4. Sift together the flour, oatmeal, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Leaving out the chocolate chips, add dry ingredients alternately with bananas and milk. Mix until blended.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips and pour into prepared pan.
  6. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes; remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes.
