What are the benefits of purchasing organic if bananas have a peel?

While it’s true that a peel prevents an organic banana from absorbing the majority of chemicals present in the air and sprayed directly onto the plant, it doesn’t completely protect the fruit inside from inorganic pesticides and other impurities. Chemicals can still enter the fruit through the water and soil as the banana hands grow from the plant stem. Therefore, the safest way to avoid eating any unnecessary, nonorganic pesticides is to choose an organic product that’s grown in a fully organic, sustainable manner.

In addition to the health benefits to the consumer, organic farming provides a healthier environment to the agricultural workers on our farms, as they are not exposed to toxic chemicals that may be harmful to their health. And, organic farming helps us ensure our farms are sustainable, not leeching additional resources or creating a harmful chemical byproduct in our soil, air or water, but allowing us to leave as little carbon footprint and protect our environment for future generations.
