First Quarter Recap at Organics Unlimited

At Organics Unlimited, we’ve had a great first quarter. Revolving around the theme of famous quotes and “quality,” we’ve interacted with fans via social media, developed POP materials, facilitated contests and had engaging discussions on our blog.

Quality means always supplying a superior product to our customers. This also includes providing the necessary tools to help our suppliers and distributors sell our organic produce. Our point of purchase materials assisted retail stores with signage and incentive to purchase Organics Unlimited bananas while maintaining with our theme for first quarter.

We also “got social” by encouraging our Facebook fans and Twitter followers to participate in contests, including a call for “quality quotes” in which fans submitted their own quotes. Our Facebook fan, Irvin Alcides Rodriguez, won our very first contest with his submission of William A. Foster’s quote “Quality is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution. It represents the wise choice of many alternatives.”

We will be continuing our contests throughout the year, so make sure you’re following us on Twitter and Facebook!

Thanks to all who have participated in our theme for the first quarter. Next quarter, we will be focusing on organic produce and practices for healthy lifestyles, and we look forward to your involvement!

The Hunt for the Altered Ad Continues!

Our March contest is still underway! Furthering our campaign in major trade publications and websites, our mission to promote quality continues through April.

In February we received a great response from our last promotional opportunity and are still optimistic that we will find a lucky winner for this month’s contest! This month, we have three ads (example above) submitted to three different industry websites/publications; one of which is altered in some way. We would like you to tell us what was changed and where you found the altered ad! Simply reply to us on our Facebook page, tweet us, or let us know on LinkedIn – be the first to respond correctly to earn a prize!

Organics Unlimited is still all about quality, which is recognized by a quote from Aristotle, “Quality is not an act. It’s a habit.” This year’s Famous Quotes campaign includes attractive point of purchase materials as well as merchandising ideas that give shoppers incentives to purchase more organic bananas.

Will you be the lucky gift card winner? Good luck!

Green: Not Just For St. Patrick’s Day

With St. Patrick’s day right around the corner, everyone has their minds on the color green. Here at Organics Unlimited, we think green everyday! We believe in growing our fruit in the most green way possible; free of chemicals that harm the environment.

Organic goods have plenty of health and environmental benefits, such as saving the environment by reducing chemicals implanted into the air and earth, decreasing pollution, saving the soil, and building a better today for tomorrow’s generation. Being able to sustain our planet and protect it is a key focus for our president Mayra Velaquez de Leon, “Sustainability has always been a part of our core beliefs. My family has been growing organic bananas since 1974, and while it is a more difficult process, it provides better long-term health for our growing areas.”

But it’s not just our planet we want to sustain, it’s also our workers. Our GROW Fund provides a valuable opportunity founded on the principles of providing a better lifestyle for not only the workers who grow our produce, but also others in the community who are either unemployed or whose wages will not pay for what we all consider life necessities. Our green values are what Organics Unlimited was built on, and we strive to not only provide great, healthy produce to our customers, but to improve our environment with our growing practices and programs.

Speaking of green, we’ve found a perfect recipe for fried green plantains to give to your customers!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 3 cloves garlic, smashed
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt, plus extra for seasoning
  • 1 1/2 cups vegetable or canola oil
  • 2 green plantains

Directions

Combine water, garlic and salt in medium size glass bowl and set aside. In a large (12-inch) saute pan, heat oil to 325 degrees F. Peel plantains and slice crosswise into 1-inch pieces. Carefully add plantains to oil and fry until golden yellow in color, about 1 to 1 1/2 minutes per side. (The oil should come halfway up the side of the plantain). With a spider or slotted spoon, remove the plantains from the pan and place them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, standing them on their ends. With the back of a wide, wooden spatula, press each piece of plantain down to half its original size. Then place the plantains in the water and let soak for 1 minute. Remove and pat dry with a tea towel to remove excess water.Bring oil back up to 325 degrees F and return plantains to pan and cook until golden brown, approximately 2 to 4 minutes per side. Remove to a dish lined with paper towels, and sprinkle with salt, if desired. Serve immediately.
