College Breaks Poverty Chain

Magdaleno Martinez Castro is an engineering student at Universidad de Colima. He has successfully finished his second year of engineering and has begun his third year of study. But Magdaleno comes from a family of farm workers who have always lived in poverty. They have often moved from farm to farm, obtaining work as it is available. Through working with Organics Unlimited and GROW, they are able to know they will have work daily, and Magdaleno is receiving a good education. His GROW scholarship is allowing him to realize his potential through studying for a better future.

Currently GROW is funding two university scholarships – one for a male engineering student and one for a female accounting major. In addition to these two scholarships, GROW has also made significant contributions to the College Endowment Fund which will eventually enable up to 30 children of agricultural workers each year to obtain a college education and lift their families out of poverty.
