Organics Unlimited Launches Fruti Fresh Label in the Asian Market
Offers Naturally-Grown Conventional GROW Bananas to Japan
San Diego, CA (July 8, 2010) – Organics Unlimited has launched the Fruti Fresh label in the Asian Market, offering naturally-grown conventional GROW bananas to Japan, exclusively from its farms in Ecuador. Offering a variety of high quality bananas, Organics Unlimited continues to meet the growing need for the most widely eaten fruit internationally.
According to the Organic Trade Commission, Ecuador is the number one exporter of bananas worldwide. Bananas are the fourth most important staple crop in world food production. Bananas are a primary source of income to the Ecuadorian economy second only to the revenue produced by oil. Japan is the third largest importer of bananas with the bulk of the supply coming from the Philippines and Ecuador.
“Our partners in Japan share our commitment and support of higher education and health programs to rural, poor children and their families throughout Ecuador,” says Organics Unlimited President, Mayra Velazquez de Leon. “Organics Unlimited has been providing organic bananas to Japan through our farms in Mexico for the last three years and now we are pleased to be able to provide additional supply of GROW-certified conventional bananas from Ecuador.”
Since 2005, the GROW Fund has granted over $500,000 in support of social programs in Mexico and Ecuador, providing a hand up to workers and their families in the areas where Organics Unlimited bananas are grown. In support of the 2009/2010 school year, GROW is funding education programs, community development, and health services including 9 university student scholarships, 19 junior high and high school students including a homework club, College Endowment Fund, Casa Amiga university housing program, GROW Education Center, Vision Clinic, Preventative dental health services, Community Education promotions, and micro-business training and support for Ecuadorian students.
