Organics Unlimited Adds Growing Operation - January 2008

San Diego - Organics Unlimited, provider of organic bananas, has recently purchased about 100 hectares of prime virgin land in Colima, Mexico, that will be used exclusively to expand the production of organic bananas.  The land combines three parcels in the area that have never been farmed, leaving it in a natural state for early organic certification.

"The land is currently being surveyed and cleared,"says Manuel Velazquez de Leon, vice president of Organics Unlimited.  "There are some very large, older trees on the land that we will try to preserve.  Once the surveying is completed, we will be installing the irrigation systems and then proceed to planting by March."

The company is responding to an increased demand around the world for organic produce.  They have already ordered over 100,000 plants and designed the irrigation system.  Planting will begin this May enabling production for February 2009.

As the founders and exclusive provider of GROW bananas, an acronym for Giving Resources and Opportunities to Workers, Velazquez de Leon plans to work closely with agricultural students from the University of Colima, providing internship opportunities for students to help them better understand the organic growing process.  GROW funds are currently offering scholarships to many students in the area to help them continue their education through the secondary and university levels.
