September is GROW Month - August 2007
San Diego,CA - The month of September has been declared GROW month by Organics Unlimited president Mayra Velazquez de Leon. GROW (Giving Resources and Opportunities to Workers) is a social responsibility program developed by Organics Unlimited to provide educational and medical assistance to the farm workers in the areas where their bananas are grown.
"Since September is really the beginning of the banana season when kids go back to school and there are less local fruit options on the market, this seems like a good time to celebrate the direction that GROW has taken," says Velazquez de Leon. "The interest in GROW has really increased tremendously since we started in 2005, and through the program, we have been able to continually increase the programs for workers and their families in Mexico."
To expand awareness at the retail level, GROW is introducing a back to school promotion for September in conjunction with GROW month. The promotion provides bookmarks with a striking, wild design and a plantable seed paper flower for produce shoppers. The bookmarks are available for all retailers who commit to the purchase of a minimum of 200 cases of GROW bananas in September. And the purchase of those bananas also provides additional funding for the GROW programs in Mexico, all of which are administered by the International Community Foundation (icfdn.org).
GROW is a program of Organics Unlimited, a San Diego-based distributor of organic tropical fruits from Mexico and South America. GROW bananas are available exclusively from Organics Unlimited. For more information on Organics Unlimited and GROW, visit their website at www.organicsunlimited.com.
